The Independent Contractors and Businesses Association of British Columbia (ICBA) recently celebrated its 40th anniversary at a gala held for members old and new at the River Rock Theatre in Richmond, British Columbia.

Founders and long-time members such as Leonard Rempel of Haul Away Disposal and Larry Mierau of Mierau Contractors Ltd. spoke to the Journal of Commerce about the early struggles to establish the open shop organization amidst a primarily unionized construction industry.
